NFL Headlines
Cowboys CB Newman questionable
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman is listed as questionable for the season opener at Cleveland. Newman's uncertain status on Friday's injury report was another sign that Adam Jones may make his Dallas debut as a starter on Sunday. It will be Jones' first NFL game since the 2006 season. Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said this week that Jones would start if Newman wasn't in the lineup.

Bills say LT Peters has ended holdout
Rather than losing a game paycheck of more than $191,000, Buffalo Bills Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters made plans on Friday to end his holdout and report to the team by Saturday. Though Peters and his representatives were unavailable for comment, Bills chief operating officer Russ Brandon released a statement saying, "It is our understanding that Jason has filed a reinstatement letter with the...

Seahawks WR Branch to miss opener
The return of Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Deion Branch is going to wait at least a week. Branch was ruled out of Seattle's season opener at Buffalo by coach Mike Holmgren on Friday. Branch was trying to get back in time for the opener just seven months after having major reconstructive surgery on his left knee.

Grant misses Pack practice as precaution
Packers running back Ryan Grant and defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila missed practice Friday as a precaution heading into Monday night's opener against Minnesota. Grant has been dealing with an ailing hamstring, while Gbaja-Biamila has been recovering from right knee surgery. Both players fully participated in practice on Thursday.

CBS sues NFLPA over fantasy football

Ravens OT Anderson hopes to face Bengals
After signing his three-year, $11 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens on Friday, offensive tackle Willie Anderson hopes to play in Sunday's season opener against the team that cut him. The 6-foot-5, 340-pound former Cincinnati Bengals team captain isn't expected to start immediately at right tackle, where Adam Terry is atop the depth chart.

Jaguars WR Porter ruled out of opener
Jaguars receiver Jerry Porter was ruled out of Sunday's season opener at Tennessee because of a hamstring injury. Porter, who signed a lucrative contract to be the team's No. 1 receiver during the offseason, had surgery to repair a torn hamstring a week before training camp. He missed all of camp and the preseason, but returned to practice Monday and had hoped to be back for the opener.

Eagles' top 2 receivers may miss opener
The Eagles could play the season opener without their two top wide receivers after Reggie Brown missed his second straight practice Friday. Brown has been sidelined since straining his left hamstring in the second preseason game against Carolina. He took part in individual drills on Wednesday, but sat out the next two practices and is doubtful for Sunday's game against the St.

Giants beat 'Skins to open title defense
New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is sacked by Washington Redskins defensive end Chris Wilson, right, with help from linebacker Jason Taylor, left, during the fourth quarter of an NFL football game Thursday night, Sept. 4, 2008, at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The Giants beat the Redskins 16-7. The New York Giants won the Super Bowl with defense and they kicked off defense of that title with more of the same. Playing without Pro Bowl linemen Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora, New York limited the new-look Washington Redskins to 11 first downs and 209 total yards and gave indications that these Giants are back for another run in a 16-7 victory that ushered in the NFL season Thursday...
