| Right wing Ryane Clowe agreed to a one-year, $1.6 million contract to stay with the San Jose Sharks on Monday. Clowe was a restricted free agent after scoring eight points in 15 games last season. McCrimmon spent four seasons as an assistant in Atlanta after previous stints with Calgary and the New York Islanders. Hall of Fame coach Scotty Bowman is joining the Chicago Blackhawks as a senior adviser for hockey operations. | Antoine Vermette signed a $5.25 million, two-year contract extension with the Ottawa Senators on Thursday after a season in which he had career highs in goals and points. | The son of Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy has been charged with assaulting a rival during a Major Junior Hockey League playoff game last March. Quebec Remparts goaltender Jonathan Roy, 19, faces one count of assault against Chicoutimi Sagueneens goalie Bobby Nadeau. The single charge was filed Thursday in Saguenay, where the brawl occurred. |

| Preds sign Smithson to 2-year extension |
| The Nashville Predators have signed center Jerred Smithson to a two-year, $1.4 million contract extension through 2011. The deal announced Thursday will pay the 29-year-old forward $725,000 in 2009-10 and $750,000 in 2010-11. Smithson, a free agent signed by Nashville in 2004, has 45 points in 241 games since making his NHL debut with Los Angeles in 2002. |
