Jim Rome Names Episode II?

Posted By Joshua on August 7, 2001
LW points out a new parody article in today's SportsFan Magazine talking about the popularity of Jim Rome and his influence on the title of Episode II:

The entertainment industry was shocked today when well-groomed producer George Lucas (?Howard the Duck,? ?Radioland Murders?) announced the title for his next ?Star Wars? film, due out in May 2002: ?Episode II: Attack of the Clones.?

But what really made all of Hollywood momentarily look up from their white powder-covered mirrors was the Star Wars guru?s admission that he named the film in honor of Jim Rome, a nationally syndicated sports radio host and a personal favorite of legendary screenwriter Lucas (?Willow,? ?Ewoks: The Battle for Endor.?)

?Clones,? on Rome?s ?the Jungle? talk show, are callers that adopt the brash host?s lingo and mannerisms when on the air. It is a running joke on the show, and one whose comedic value was about as short-lived as Rome?s ESPN2 talk show.

?The Clone Wars have been a part of Star Wars mythology for decades,? said Lucas. ?but it wasn?t until I realized that obnoxious callers to sports radio shows were also called clones that the plot really started to make sense.?

Lucas sought Rome?s input in creating ?Attack of the Clones,? the follow-up to ?Episode I: The Phantom Menace,? which of course sucked.

?I was always a big fan of Jim?s,? said Lucas, counting his money. ?He?s so hip, and the way he relates to African-Americans could really mend some fences after that whole Jar-Jar thing.?

Head over there for the rest and thanks to many other for alerts as well!

Was Jar-Jar SUPPOSED to be black? I didn't notice him "boosting" anyone's sand cruiser or scalping tickets outside of the "arena" before the epic "fight sequence"?

His knees DID look a bit ashy towards the end though?
