Vince Russo interview on Wrestlecrap
« on: February 17, 2006, 12:46:53 am »
I don't know what people's opinions of Vince Russo are.  Frankly, I knew very little about him until after most of his work was over.  However, he remains, in my opinion, one of the most interesting figures in wrestling in the past twenty years.

He is featured in an interview with Wreslecrap, the first half has been released as an mp3, and I thought it would be worth a listen; here's the linkl

It's about an hour long, but I think it's fascinating.  Hope you like.

Very interesting interview.  Changed my viewpoint of Russo all together in the first half.  Here are some of the highlights.

- Tells some anecdotes about creating characters, particularly the Val Venis character

- Pretty much says besides business, Stephanie McMahon is a dumbass

- Tells his feud with Jim Cornette and the old school

- How Shane McMahon's only influence in the Attitude era was his work on DX

- Why he wanted to leave the WWF

- And pretty much says that Vince McMahon is the most heartless human being on the face of the planet and wants to ruin him.

Can't wait next week to hear the second part about his time in WCW

I'm glad someone liked it.

On what you said.
1. No doubt Russo would create Val Venis.  That's what he would go for anyway.
2. Would you disagree that Stephanie is not the creative type?
3. Cornette was old school, that's what SMW was all about, and its no surprise he shut it downin '96.
4. I already knew his reasons for leaving the WWF, and they all made sense.  It made even more sense coming from his own mouth
5. Vince McMahon is the most heartless human being on the face of the planet.  As for ruining him, that's Russo's own self-absorbed paranoia.  He still has loads of that, and you can tell that even from his first hour.

You nailed it all right on the head.  I like Russo better than McMahonoid better personally, but Vinny Mac is the better promoter in general.
