Resumes
« on: January 21, 2015, 09:04:21 pm »
Ok I know some of you are successful and may or may not hire.

I just got one today at work for a professional position.  The cover letter killed me.

He stated that he had never done illegal drugs.  He had never been arrested  :uhh good job not breaking the law.  That really isn't setting you apart in this position.

He had only smoked once a cigar once and no other smoking.

He had not drank alcohol is like 25 years and was only drunk like 5 times in his life.

It all seemed very random and had nothing to do with the position he applied for.  Have any of you seen any crazy shit in resumes and or cover letter you have reviwed.

He did not say and I am not allowed to ask.  Nor have I talked to him, still taking resumes.

Didn't look that closely at his work history or try to do the math.

I had an Indian kid that got my resume off of CareerBuilder and put his own name on the top of it.   That was a pretty interesting interview.

I've actually phone interviewed an Indian dude over in Chennai,  who answered every question perfectly,   but the person that showed up the next Monday was a female and barely spoke English.

That's how I wound up having to fly over there and interview in person.     Very slippery business practices going on over there.

:lol   Yeah,  that last interview question where you say.... "So,   do you  have any questions for me?"

Usually you get questions about benefits,   401Ks,   what kind of hardware is used...etc....

but good night a'livin:

If the kid said:    "Um,  yeah man... .do ya'll do drug tests?"      :lol X 8 X 32

Nothing too crazy but I get tons of resumes at the end of spring from the local community college grads. They are blanket resume droppers who are most likely told to do this but it rarely if ever works.  I actually had one mention that she was very familiar with today's business practices because she worked a cash register at a clothing store in the mall. I'm pretty certain she'll be Minister of Finance within 10 years.

When you're young it is kind of difficult to be impressive with your resume' when you haven't really accomplished anything.  I disagree with Tudo on Military service on a resume'.  There is nothing wrong with listing accomplishments like Below-the-Zone promotions, commands you served under, rank at separation, etc.  A prospective employer can get a lot from that information.
