3 L.A. NFL Teams?
« on: February 23, 2015, 11:36:57 am »
So here's the proposed Los Angeles sports map:

3 football + 2 baseball + 2 hoops + 2 hockey + 2 college football = 11 marquee teams for a population of 13M.  14M if you throw in San Diego/Oceanside, etc.

Compare that with New York: 2 football + 2 baseball + 2 hoops + 2 hockey = 8 teams for a population of 20M.

Don't forget you'll have to assume all 3 NFL teams are worth watching in L.A., which is never a given.  If (a) both teams in Carson suck (b) the Lakers get good again, or (c) the Doyers finally get over in the playoffs, people will happily go with them instead.  Heck they'd rather just go to the beach.  Someone's not thinking rationally right here.  We all know the David family is retarded, Spanos is greedy in a way that Donald Sterling would admire.  And what happens when they lobby for a Super Bowl around the same time Stan Cranky wants the game in his new track?

Of the 3 teams talking about moving to LA, the only realistic one is the Raiders because Alameda county is broke.  The Rams are going to be able to leverage money from the state, and I think the Chargers are going to get something done in San Diego.

And if you are counting the 2 Orange County teams (Angels and Ducks) in your metro area comparison, you forgot about the Devils and Rutgers in your NYC assessment.

The owner of the Rams has already purchased 60 acres of land adjacent to The LA Forum and Hollywood Park.  I would call that fairly realistic.

You are correct.  I know very little about attendance at Rutgers games.  Still, the difference in population is pretty big.

Over the last 30 years, the Chargers' Super Bowl accomplishments rate equal to that of the Raiders --- and the Rams' Super Bowl accomplishments over that span dwarf that of the Raiders.

Insightful commentary there, Nasty.  Do you know a guy named Jeff?  He's from Maryland.

Los Angeles has never shown the ability to support an NFL team.  So we should probably give them three.
