Is The SmackOff Dying?
« on: June 11, 2015, 09:59:08 am »
The SmackOff has been deteriorating over the past few years. Most of the old school don't call any longer and most of the new school car once a year. Rome is still asking for Joe in the OC? He hasn't called in years! I'm surprised he isn't still shouting out to Terrance in Sierra Madre... Boatie is now apparently has an auto-bid as if he is a past winner (granted, it's more for fodder and humor). My point is that the SmackOff is definitely not what it once was and is not terribly memorable year over year like it was in the past. Sadly, if it doesn't get much better, Rome needs to put a bullet in it.

Joe only missed last years Smackoff, so I guess technically he hasn't called in years.

It does feel forced now. Not enough good callers. Vanilla content. etc

last years smack off was bad because all the good callers were listening to Jay Mohr at the same time slot

good question  :popcorn
But Rome will have to do some heavy pimping if the winner he calls didn't deliver .
I think they thru the 5G out there to get some quality old time callers (Jim in Fall River) to call in .

Obviously it's dying, he's letting the participants have "walk-up" music. Trying to kill as much time as possible because he knows there won't even be 10 callers.

i think there will be more callers this year (than last), but it will save him from resetting calls
