Will the NL be getting the DH?
« on: January 25, 2016, 09:16:07 am »
There's been rumours having a uniform rule for both leagues. Cue Maltage from NL fan.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2016/01/21/mlb-commissioner-rob-manfred-not-yet-sold-dh-rule-nl/79133826/

Quote
CORAL GABLES, Fla. - There are rumblings from general managers in both leagues that they'd prefer to adopt the designated hitter throughout Major League Baseball. Yet the most important opinion belongs to commissioner Rob Manfred - and he's not altogether sold on the idea.

Manfred made it clear Thursday he'd like to keep the rules the same between the two leagues - but he’s willing to listen to change.

“Twenty years ago, when you talked to National League owners about the DH,’’ Manfred said, “you’d think you were talking some sort of heretical comment. But we have a newer group. There’s been turnover. I think our owners in general have demonstrated a willingness to change the game in ways we think would be good for the fans, always respecting the history and traditions of the sport.”

The next collective bargaining agreement will include the DH in the National League.  Book it.

Cue the Justin and Snake malts.

As a true baseball fan, I would hate to see the DH infect the National League.

I know I live in an American League city  :uhh :lol, but the DH rule is dumb.
Any player that plays the field should be required to hit.  Pitchers don't usually
get injured hitting or running bases.  If they do, they're weak.

It's funny that growing up a lot of the best hitters on teams were also pitchers. As hockey has "evolved" in the PC world by doing away with the enforcer, baseball appears to be going backwards by considering the DH in the NL. Sad.

It will be in the NL by 2018. Just like every other sport, baseball is enamored with offense, home runs and runs scored. Already having the stigma of a boring sport, they were behind anyhow and need to try to catcb up with all the other pro sports.

It all comes down to that sweet advertising money

I for one never understood why the AL adopted it to begin with. if you are on the field you should be hitting point blank.  don't do it NL; don't do it!!!!!

Because having one almost automatic out every 9 batters isn't as interesting as having a slugger in that line-up instead.

Yes I know strategy makes it interesting.  ::)

they should continue to focus on speeding the damn game up.

my plan would be for the AL to ditch the DH, plus require the closer to hit
every day in a 10 man batting lineup.  thats almost 2 guaranteed outs  :koolaid

Even in the NL, they're pretty much automatic outs. A pitcher only plays once every 5 days or in the case of a reliever, one inning at a time.

Yeah it's asking way too much of the pitchers to hit. :uhh

Don't want to see it in the NL and with Ortiz retiring after this season the DH should retire in the AL with him. And as far as baseball wanting offense, enough runs are scored as it is with the bad pitching, small parks, juiced balls, etc. Baseball doesn't need 10-8 games every night.
