Bill Dyre in the LA Times had a great tribute in the paper today. No slavish, glassy-eyed
slobbering prose. A sober look at Ali, his career, and our fascination with him. He said he
was a fantastic boxer, but the greatest? No. But he told us so often we finally all just shrugged
and sort of just gave it to him.

Amid all the hyperbole surrounding His—sorry, his death, it was a refreshingly level-headed
tribute from a newspaper that lives, breathes, and eats PC and liberalism.

seeing where you're coming from kenyon. NO, he wasn't a God, no, he wasn't even a saint. he was a smart-assed, loud mouthed idiot who had experienced all the racial hatred of the 50s and 60s. HE KEPT HIS COOL. HE WAS A MAN OF HIS GENERATION. i prefer to call him a hero. he was to me and my pasty ass. you can call him whatever you want...

LOOK, the guys get their domes smashed in, yet they are artists. it's called the sweet science, yet the results are men (and now women) with irreparable damage done to their mental facilities. please... some one defend this sport

I was brought up on the sport. Unfortunately, I never excelled at it. I never liked people throwing
their fists at me. It hurt my feelings more than anything. However, the sweet science is an awesome
concept.

I think that Rome actually had Freddy Roach break down the thought behind "The Sweet Science" Would love
to hear it again. From what I remember it is a simple combination of mind, heart, body, and soul. And a LOT of strategy.

I am amazed that while hockey players have donned helmets...and third base coaches, pro boxers are
left with unprotected heads.

Boxing is fine. The problem is that MMA has all the personalities. Boxing just has...guys grinding it out.
Oh, and Mayweather. Who, to me, is really fun to watch! I do like defencive battles in most sports, though...
