Rome a women's B-ball fan now?
« on: February 14, 2017, 05:45:29 pm »
I couldn't believe it when he started talking about the UConn women's streak.  But what's worse is that he ran the caller who bashed women's basketball.  I've been listening to Rome for 20 years, and he has always said (and I agree) that women's basketball is simply unwatchable.  It's just bad basketball.  Now, all of a sudden he's pimping the UConn streak and praising them?  What a fvcking sellout.  The guy has really lost his edge, and I'm sure the suits at CBS and O'Reilly have a lot to do with that.  Sponsors don't like controversy.  This may be the one thing that makes me turn off his show for good.  What's next, he becomes a soccer fan?

I touched on it briefly in hour 3 then took a couple of calls about it. It was nothing like the attention espn gave them.

True, but ESPN is invested in women's B-ball, so they're trying to drive viewership to their stations.  I can understand their business reasons for doing so.  Rome has always been paid to have controversial opinions, and when he backtracks on something as ridiculous as women's college basketball, he loses any credibility that he ever had.

Besides that, I can't stand how much MMA coverage he does.  Dana White must be blowing him.

I don't think he's said anything controversial in over a decade.

I thought all the MMA coverage was due to the rumor Rome was looking for a UFC gig when Mike Goldberg left.  Seems like that fell through or there wasn't much there to begin with, still I actually don't mind the coverage and monthly Dana White chats, he's the only commissioner worth listening to.  Well, him and Boat Oars I guess.
