Tom Brady.

Ranked as the sixth best QB since 1978 by...

Hall of Fame coach, Tony Dungy.

What to make of this?

Dungy has caught a lot of flak for this, and he explained his reasoning.

He said he was looking at it from the point of view as a DC.
He cited other abilities some top QBs had which presented more problems for a DC.
Notably, mobility and scrambling ability.

He ranked Elway, S. Young, A. Rodgers, and P. Manning ahead of Brady.

I looked at a few sites that covered this story, but I never did see who his fifth player ahead of Brady was, nor did I ever seen his actual 1-6 list.

Or maybe I'm just blind from jackin' off too damn much.

Anyway...

Tom Brady is #6 and that's that.

Thoughts?

I understand what Dungy is saying from a DC's point of view who is the most difficult to plan for & he does have a valid point.  Elway, Young & Rogers I can see because of the scrambling ability (Manning not so sure; have you seen him try to run???) which made them even more dangerous.

I understand his point of view, too.

I mean, if you're game planning to play against a QB for ONE game.

But the thing about Brady is his efficiency.
He doesn't beat himself.
He doesn't turn the ball over yet he consistently converts on 3rd downs.
And when he gets down in the red zone, he finds a way to punch it in.

Elway and Young (especially Elway) turned the ball over much more.
Elway had a bit of a wild streak, especially when he was younger.
He'd be scary to game plan for if you were a DC, but he might also hand the ball over to you a couple (or more) times.

good pts pop. but brady has the genius for a coach. i've seen brady fail badly in many games. he is a top 10 QB but not in the discussion for top 5. if you want me to prove it, call me out. i will chop you off at you knees.
