He's Back
« on: January 09, 2018, 10:22:53 am »
Jon Gruden will be officially announced as coach of muh Raiders today.

Rumor (Greg Papa of 95.7 in Oakland) has it that after he was fired from Tampa he really wanted to come back to the Raiders to but, Al Davis for whatever reason wouldn't hire him.  Well AD is no longer around and Mark pushed $100 mil chips onto the Gruden table.

Most have (and rightfully so) questioned if Gruden can coach in today's NFL.  He's been away from the daily grind for 10 years and while he's been watching film and had the Gruden QB Camp its not the same as being the HC.  Also, he was fired from the Bucs 6 years after winning the SB over said Raiders his records are as follows:

7-9   2003
5-11 2004
11-5 2005
4-12 2006
9-7   2007
9-7   2008

The '08 season was brutal because the Bucs were 9-3 and primed for a deep playoff run but, lost the last 4 to miss the playoffs altogether and Gruden was subsequently fired.  Other than the '05 season he's not had a great record.  I haven't delved into what the Bucs' roster looked like but, 2003 was a definite SB hangover as the roster was virtually unchanged from the previous year.

Grudens first priority is fixing Derek Carr.  Greg Olson (who was Oaklands OC just a few years ago) was the LA Rams' qb coach is now the OC.  However, Rich Gannon is heavily rumored to be the next qb coach.  Carr regressed under Todd Downing (his friend) and it also showed that Downing was in over his head.  This is the main reason why Jack Del Rio was fired.

2nd will be the defense.  Khalil Mack is all world but, he can't play defensive back and rush off the edge too.  The db's have been a weak link for the Raiders over the last few years.  Paul Guenther; late of the Bengals is the new DC.  The db's actually started playing better once Ken Norton, Jr. was fired and John Pagano took over.

This is something that some Raiders fans have been dreaming for since Gruden was fired from the Bucs and now its a reality.  He has some unfinished business to take care of in RaiderNation!

He's a gode coach if he knows the plays of his opponents.    Tampa Bay would not have won that SB had he not coached the raiders the year befo'

2 questions:

1.  Did Mark Davis use the same overhead projector his daddy used when they fired Lane Kiffin?
2.  How many Chucky dolls has Mattel sold in the last 6 hours?

Hiring Gruden is probably a few steps ahead of Edwards.

Giving him a 10 year deal probably makes it just a step ahead.
