Khalil Mack traded to da Berz
« on: September 03, 2018, 02:56:01 am »
For 2 first round picks -- with other "minor" assets exchanged.

Raider fan here.

Many of "us" are bent.

I am not.

It was a "no win" situation.

You corkskrew your cap into the ground if you try to match the Bears crazy offer to a DE.

You piss fans off (the dimmer bulb fans) if you let Mack get away.

Mack is outstanding, but his overall potential value as a DE does not match the crazy jack he was commanding.

Gruden (and his assistant, Flubber) chose the lesser of two evils and let Mack go.

Move on and get ready for the Lambs (MNF) and the season.

That's what happens. Salary Cap issues.

2 first round picks? It's not like the bears are going anywhere soon.
Overall, a good deal for the Raiders.

Pass rushers command that kind of money as well as a proven player.

Two picks are great if you get them right. I bet the raiders dont. Who do you sign with all that money?

The Raiders already allocated a bunch of cap money to Carr but the Bears don't have a player like that. Theyre making a run at it while their QB is still on his cheap rookie deal  -recent teams who won with a still-cheap QB are Seattle and Philly, that might become a new strategy for NFL teams seeking a title. Bears are hoping Trubisky and coach Nagy can develop quickly, just like Wentz and Pederson in Philly did. Of course, both Trubisky and Nagy remain unproven as fvck.  If the Bears finish 8-8 or better, then those two 1st rounders arent going to be that great of a pick, and they were probably going to use those picks to search for a pass rusher anyway, one that wasnt going to be as good as Mack, who is dominant.  You gotta spend your salary cap money on somebody.

Also, Chicago gave a 3rd and 6th in 2020 but got a 2nd and 5th back from Oakland, so they also improved by 1 round twice in the 2020 Draft.

Right.
That's the point.

You can tie up huge money on a QB -- because he has by far the most opportunity to impact games and seasons.

You can't at the same time tie up huge money in a DE -- who does not have nearly as much opportunity to impact games and seasons as a QB does.

Great pass rushers are highly valued in the NFL. It is the best way to stop a great QB.  It is a position that is justified to spend that kind of money on a player like Mack.

The only advantage of the first round picks is you in theory get value.  However how many 1st round picks never live up to the expectations?  That is far from a sure thing. So this trade depends on whether you can make the right picks later.

Mack is an outstanding player, no doubt.
And you're right -- a pass rushing DE is of high value.

The problem for the Raiders is that they already tied up huge money in D. Carr.
HE needs to be their difference maker.

The roster has a lot of holes.
You tie up huge money in two guys and I just don't think you'll get to where you want to go.

It was a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation for Oakland.

Maybe Gruden can get Sapp and Strahan to come out of retirement?

If they donít want to play ball, just dig up Reggie White and toss his bones out there with a bible.

this was a gut punch on Saturday morning when I saw that there was an agreement to trade Mack.  needless to say he was the best player on muh Raiders roster w/out a doubt.  however, as the weekend wore on my head took over and saw that this was best for the team.

i'm just hoping da Bears win no more than 3 games this year

#12 has the highest winning percentage vs the Bears than any other previous Packer QB. Losing to GB is a big deal in Chicago. Always has been.
