Forty-seven years ago today, five men bugled the Democratic National Committee's (DNC) office at Washington,D.C's Watergate Office Complex. This "third-rate burglary" toppled the 38th U.S. President,Richard M. Nixon, who was forced to resign or face all-but-certain impeachment for "high crimes and misdemeanours";"Tricky Dick" would have been the second President after Andrew Johnson to experience this punishment. Save the guard who discovered the crime,it would not have come to light without the dogged determination of Washington Post reporters Robert Woodward and Carl Bernstein. Many people believe Nixon would have skated were Watergate to have occurred today due to the dearth of investigative journalism. How 'bout it,boys ?
