The Ex-Rays?

Hed just Splooged

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/27016429/rays-explore-splitting-games-montreal

Quote
The Tampa Bay Rays have received permission from Major League Baseball's executive council to explore a plan in which they would play early-season home games in the Tampa Bay area and the remainder of the year in Montreal, commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday.

While the plan is in its nascent stages, the Rays have embraced the two-city solution as the most feasible to saving baseball in the Tampa Bay area after years of failed attempts to build a new stadium in the region, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Under the plan, the Rays would play in new stadiums in both the Tampa Bay area and Montreal, sources said. The number of home games each city would receive has not been determined, sources said.

Manfred referred to the idea of a two-city Rays team as a long-term project.

The ability to play games early in the season in Florida would preclude the need for a domed stadium, cutting the cost of a new building.

This is what the MLB did to the Expos (Except with games in San Juan) before moving to DC.

The Spos could be back!

By who? From what I hear the corporate investment just isn't there for this team.

Just building a stadium doesn't guarantee success /s/ Miami.

Montreal got hosed by Jeffery Loria who didn't even try to keep the team in Montreal. The city does have good support for Beisbol.

Their current stadium is no better or worse than the Trop. They would have to figure out a stadium solution the same as Tampa or Oakland for that matter.

The Rays are going to have to build a new stadium in Tampa/St Pete financed by the taxpayers, team ownership, or a combination of the two.  It is either that or they are going to relocate to another city which is the more likely of the two options.  The hair-brained split season concept is nothing but a power play by Rays ownership.  It will NEVER happen.

This reminds me of the Pittsburgh Penguins flirting with Kansas City years ago in order to get their new arena built.  That move was never going to happen either.

At least it’s the right time to make a push for a new stadium. They’re actually staying in the hunt and they’re young enough that they’ll be able to compete for the next few years.
They’ll still fail to fill the stadium even in the playoffs. Not sure exactly why or what it is but Florida baseball will never have enough support from its populace. Old people would rather catch the game on the ol tube than attend a game.

I do think the MLB wants to get back into Montreal.

They'll support a new team. Jeffery Loria, who's also at fault for the Trainwreck in Miami, ruined the viability of that team.
