Curious your thoughts on compression ?

The next gen of this pedal has no compression dial, but has the equivalent compression as this version with the compression dialed all the way up.  So your stuck with the compression on the next gen. But, it has a dial for scooping or boosting mids, whereas this version you must accept either fully scooped or fully boosted via footswitch.

I tried to buy a USB cable to plug into the guitar amps in Garageband - FAIL

there is a fix for this, i haven't recorded music on my macbook in almost 10 years but if memory serves, the fix involves doing an initial delayed recording, and either unplugging/replugging the USB after or starting a fresh file.

I think that Vox MV50 AC sounds so good in that part where Lee plays it through the 8 inch cabinet on the neck pickup.  Really sings and I think it has warmth despite the lack of low end.  "Nutube" is apparently a tube of sorts and not emulation.
