So your power grid and itís peopleís reliance on it sucks.

I live in California and completely understand.

I own solar panels and a generator.

How the fvck, in 2021, people arenít able to outwit a winter storm or a heat wave has me leaving them with zero sympathy.

The question is simple, frank:

Would you be willing to pay an extra $50 a month on your power bill to safeguard your grid against an event that *might* occur once every 10-15 years?

Apparently, the answer is no.

Perhaps Texas should start collecting a state income tax to cover these shortfalls.

Only people that gambled and bought power at wholesale rates for years are getting bills like this.  The wholesale rate went from 7 cents per megawatt/hour to $9.  Spikes like this are not unheard of but only last for an hour or two.  This one lasted a day and a half.  When you gamble on the wholesale market sometimes you lose.

I suspect the Pawr peeble who would opt for such a scheme don't have thousands of liquid dollars available to pay such a bill.

And we should feel sorry for people that take out adjustable rate mortgages when rates rise.

Got it.

Got it.

We know from the 2008 Financial Crisis, that such loans and such Energy contracts are due to highly predatory sales tactics.

I know when I was in a home, for the first time, I fell for a fixed rate scheme that had me paying well above market rate for Natural Gas for 5 years.
