the presidents (all, democratic and republican) and the military underestimated the strength of the Vietnamese. also, the chinese who supported them. it sucks that so many americans were sacrificed in a no win situation. the Vietnamese who wanted the US help were fewer in number. we had no chance to win unless we virtually destroyed many innocents and/or the whole damn country.

FYI: The Vietnamese fought a short war with Chinese after the U.S. left.
I'm sure history teacher knows that.
It didn't help that the U.S. had one of the worst generals in history in Westmoreland. And it became more political than tactical.
I have serious family ramifications from this war, as in WWII in my immediate family, but I won't mention it here because its a thing to insult dead soldiers in order to troll people here and think they were/are being funny.
