Can anyone think of an American boxer that would have been good at this?

I'll nominate Gene Tunney. Dude gave lectures on Shakespeare at Yale University and wrote books with George Bernard Shaw.

As far as the chess boxing, obviously they're using gloves that can be easily taken off and on in between rounds -I wonder how that affects their punching vs the way gloves are usually prepared in a boxing fight.
